NIJMEGEN, NETHERLANDS
НЕЙМЕГЕН, НИДЕРЛАНДЫ
Nijmegen is a city in the Dutch province of Gelderland, on the Waal River close to the German border. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands. The city was founded in Roman times, and in 2005 celebrated 2,000 years of existence. The city is full of magnificent historic buildings and centuries-old plazas, and is home to Holland’s oldest shopping street, the Lange Hezelstraat. The biggest in Nijmegen Valkhof Museum (Museum Het Valkhof) is an archaeology and art museum, housing a spectacular collection of Roman antiquities, old masters and modern art. Every year on the third Tuesday of July thousands of participants take part in the greatest walking event in the world: the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse or Four Days Marches. The Four Days Festival in Nijmegen is a mixture of music, food and drinks.
