Maastricht is a city and a municipality in the southeastern Netherlands. It is the capital and largest city of the province of Limburg. Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in Holland. Today, the city is a thriving cultural and regional hub. Maastricht is a great city with many historical structures and squares. It is known in the Netherlands and beyond for its lively squares, narrow streets, and historic buildings. Maastricht has 1677 national heritage buildings, the second highest number in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. The city is visited by tourists for shopping and recreation. The Bonnefanten Museum is a fine art museum located in Maastricht. It houses a unique combination of old and contemporary art. On 25 June 1637, during the siege of Maastricht, d'Artagnan was shot in the head. Now Maastricht became well known through the Maastricht Treaty and as the birthplace of the euro.
