Grenoble is the largest city of the Isere department in the Southeastern France. It lies at the foot of the French Alps. A significant European scientific center the city advertises itself as the Capital of the Alps, due to its size and its proximity to the mountains. Grenoble's history goes back over 2000 years, to a time when it was a small Gallic village. It became the capital of the Dauphine in the 11th century. Nowadays the city has grown to be one of Europe's most important research, technology and innovation centers. Grenoble is one of the main tourist destinations in France. One of the most visited tourist attractions in Grenoble is the Bastille, which offers a panoramic view of the city below and the surrounding mountains. The Museum of Grenoble (Musee de Grenoble) is considered one of the Great museums of France. It has great collection. The Museum has a rich collection of fine arts from Ancient Egypt to the contemporary times. In the early 20th century the Museum of Grenoble became the first French museum to open its collections to modern art.
